Lists: pairs with more than $1M daily volume, coins listed for at least 10 days. Funding rate: the payment between longs and shorts at the next settlement, as a share of position size. APR: the current rate repeated for a year. 7d avg: average of hourly readings over 7 days. Binance only.
What is the funding rate
Perpetual futures have no expiry, so exchanges keep their price close to spot with funding: a small payment between longs and shorts every 8 hours (on some pairs every 4 hours or every hour). When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts. When it is negative, shorts pay longs. The exchange takes nothing.
You hold a $1,000 long. Every 8 hours you pay $0.10 to shorts. With 10x leverage on $100 margin that is 0.1% of your margin each time.
You hold a $1,000 long on a pair that pays every 4 hours. Each time shorts pay you $2.00. Six times a day that is $12, or 12% of $100 margin.
Negative funding
A negative rate means futures trade below the index and more traders want to be short than the market can hold at that price. Shorts pay to keep their positions open. Deep negative funding usually sits next to a crowded short side: compare it with the long short ratio and see on the liquidation heatmap where those shorts would be forced out.
Questions
Which coins have the most negative funding rate right now?
On Binance futures the most negative funding is on CTK -0.8983%, RSR -0.6847%, SKL -0.3585%, BLUR -0.2870%, OGN -0.2387%: shorts pay longs there. The highest positive rates are on Q +0.0271%, CAP +0.0267%, TRUTH +0.0176%. The table above updates every minute.
What is the funding rate in crypto?
A periodic payment between traders holding long and short positions on a perpetual futures contract. It keeps the futures price close to the spot price: when futures trade above spot the rate is positive and longs pay, when they trade below it turns negative and shorts pay.
How is the funding rate calculated?
Binance adds an interest part, 0.01% per 8 hours on most pairs, to a premium part that measures how far the futures price trades above or below the index during the period. The result is limited by a cap and a floor set for each pair. Your payment is the rate times your position size at the settlement moment.
When is funding paid on Binance?
Most pairs settle every 8 hours, at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC. Some pairs settle every 4 hours or every hour, and Binance can shorten the interval when the rate stays extreme. You pay or receive funding only if a position is open at the settlement moment; the countdown above shows the time left.
What does a high or negative funding rate mean?
High positive funding means longs pay a lot to stay in: the long side is crowded. Negative funding means the short side is crowded and shorts pay longs. Neither tells where the price goes next, but a crowded side often sits next to clusters of liquidations, which is why this page links the long short ratio and the heatmap.
Where does the data come from?
From Binance USDT-M futures, read every minute for every pair. The page covers Binance only, other exchanges are not included. The 24h change and the 7 day average come from hourly readings PumpInfo stores.
